March 2026 Board Meeting — Highlights & Minutes
The Royalwood Neighbourhood Association held its monthly board meeting on March 5, 2026. Here’s a summary of the key discussions and decisions from the meeting.
Attendance
Board members present: Michael Chen (President), Sarah Mitchell (Vice President), James Okafor (Treasurer), Linda Tran (Secretary), David Rodriguez (Member at Large), Patricia Gonzalez (Member at Large)
Key Agenda Items
Spring Cleanup Event
The board confirmed final details for the annual Spring Community Cleanup scheduled for April 11. Volunteer coordinator Patricia Gonzalez reported that we’ve already received commitments from over 40 residents. The City of Winnipeg has confirmed they’ll provide a waste collection truck. The board approved a budget of $300 for supplies, refreshments, and recognition tokens for volunteers.
Playground Equipment Project Update
Sarah Mitchell provided an update on the playground equipment installation project at Royalwood Park. The City has confirmed that work will begin in early May. The board discussed plans for a community celebration event to be held on June 28 (tentatively) to mark the completion of the project. All board members agreed this is an important opportunity to celebrate our community’s advocacy efforts.
Street Safety and Traffic Calming
James Okafor reported on ongoing concerns from residents about traffic speeds on some residential streets. The board discussed the petition that was circulated earlier in the year and agreed to prepare a formal submission to the City of Winnipeg requesting traffic calming measures, including the possibility of speed bumps on high-traffic residential corridors. A small committee was formed to compile resident feedback and data.
2026 General Budget
The board reviewed and approved the 2026 operational budget. Key allocations include:
- Community events and cleanup supplies: $800
- Website hosting and maintenance: $200
- Administrative expenses: $150
- Reserve fund: $500
